Rx. Scutellariae Huang Qin 12g Clears Heat, dries Dampness, drains Fire, detoxifies, cools the Blood and stops bleeding.
With Zhi Zi, powerfully clears and drains lurking Heat from the Lungs.
With Sang Bai Pi, Gua Lou and Mai Men Dong, for acute and chronic cough due to Lung Heat.
With Sang Bai Pi and Zhi Mu, for Lung Heat cough.
Fr. Gardeniae Zhi Zi 12g Clears Heat, reduces Fire, resolves Dampness and eliminates irritability.
Rz. Anemarrhenae Zhi Mu 15g Clears Heat from the Lungs, drains Fire, nourishes Yin and moistens Dryness.
With Huang Qin, for cough with Excess Lung Heat.
Sm. Trichosanthis Gua Lou Ren 15g Clears Heat, transforms Hot Phlegm, cools and moistens the Lungs, expands the chest, moistens the Intestines and promotes bowel movements
Bul. Fritillariae Thunbergii Zhe Bei Mu 9g Clears Heat, transforms Phlegm and stops cough.
With Zhe Bei Mu, for cough due to Lung Heat or Yin Deficiency with expectoration of thick, yellow sputum.
Rx. Ophiopogonis Mai Men Dong 9-15g Moistens the Lungs, nourishes Yin, stops cough and moistens the Intestines.
With Zhi Mu and Gua Lou Ren, for pathogenic Dryness that has transformed into Fire.
Per. Citri Reticulatae Chen Pi 9g Dries Dampness, transforms Phlegm and descends Qi.
Poria Fu Ling 9g Strengthens the Spleen and transforms Phlegm.
Rx. Platycodi Jie Geng 9g Opens the Lungs, spreads Lung Qi, expels Phlegm, benefits the throat and raises Lung Qi, directing the effects of other herbs to the upper body.
Cx. Mori Sang Bai Pi 9-12g Drains Heat from the Lungs, stops cough and calms wheezing.
With Huang Qin, drains Heat from the Lungs, and stops cough and wheezing.
(Rx. Glycyrrhizae) (Gan Cao) (3-6g) (Moistens the Lungs, resolves Phlegm, stops cough and moderates and harmonizes the harsh properties of other herbs.)

CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS

  • Rapid breathing with a harsh voice
  • Cough with expectoration of copious thick, purulent, yellow-green sputum or blood-flecked, foul-smelling pus (as in Lung abscess)
  • The sputum is difficult to expectorate
  • Maybe chills and fever
  • Dyspnea
  • Asthma
  • Chest pain
  • Fullness and distention in the chest and diaphragm
  • Pain in the ribs
  • Dry mouth
  • Constipation
  • Scanty, dark urine
